I've been to cheaper startup conferences, what makes this one special?
There are a few types of conferences:
- Conferences for people who build products with investor money - free (actually paid for by the investors who then get to set the agenda)
- Conferences for people who build big products with their own money (such as Business of Software) - $2000
- Conferences for people who build small products with their own money (MicroConf) - $499
Charging for a conference dramatically improves the quality of the content and the people involved, both in terms of speakers and attendees.
Charging results in higher quality attendees and a smaller speaker to attendee ratio, resulting in much more room for one-on-one dialog and specific answers to your question. Speakers (who are being flown in from all over the world) also have the freedom to include details and tactics they would not publish on the public internet, precisely due to this exclusivity.
